While the majority of our students make good decisions each day, there are students who fail to follow the "Magic Five" on occassion and others who make poor choices frequently.
It is one of HMS's goals for the 2010-2011 school year to improve student behavior as shown by fewer detentions, fewer student referrals, and a lower number of in-school and out-of-school suspensions.
The following wiki wants you to share your ideas for reducing student behavior occurrences. Suggestions may include possible consequences, rewards and incentives that work for students, and/or ideas for rule changes. Suggestions may include classroom, hallway, and cafeteria management practices.
Students responding: Ask yourself: "What would keep me from breaking the rules or getting into trouble?" OR you may choose to answer the question: "What changes could be made to improve behavior at Highland?"
Parents responding: Please consider your greatest behavior concerns for students. You may ask questions about discipline procedures, rules, or share ideas you have for improving student behavior.
Staff members responding: Please share your greatest behavior concerns for students on a daily basis. You may choose to share how certain types of behavior affect learning in the classroom or classroom management techniques that have worked for you. Also consider sharing suggestions for improving behavior issues in the building.
Please remember that no student, parent, or staff member names are to be used. The purpose of the wiki is to generate ideas to improve behavior in a positive manner.

School purchases a basic generic pair of tennis shoes in most sizes for male and female students. Students would have to wear the "dress code" shoes for the day. They would be disinfected when returned much like bowling shoes.
Parents and Students: What do you feel is an appropriate school consequence for students who choose to violate the dress code?
